PREPAREDNESS IS A MUST

We cannot avoid disaster. Disaster can occur at any time, strike in every corner of the world, during season, and on different scales throughout the year. These events are often unexpected by their nature, leaving little time, if any, to prepare. That is why it is so important to put time into planning and preparing long before the disaster strikes.

The important of preparing ourselves for disasters is universal. Emergencies can happen anywhere- at home or at work and everyone must take action to prepare for emergencies in case something unexpected happens. Whether it is a hurricane, flood, earthquake, or tsunami, many things can happen that could change lives. The threat is real, disasters disrupt hundreds of thousands of lives every year and each disaster has lasting effects, both to people and property.

The best way to cope with a natural disaster is to prepare by having a plan before it strikes. Knowing what to do and having supplies and equipment, increase your chance of surviving and limits damage. Being prepared can reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. Communities, families, and individuals should know what to do during the event and where to seek shelter when it strikes. They should be ready to evacuate their homes and take refuge in public shelters and know how to care for their basic medical needs.

Being prepared is a 365-day-a-year activity. Take charge and take control to be as prepared as possible.

A Healthy Outside Starts From The Inside

Your lifestyle is of utmost importance. Your lifestyle involves a lot of aspects like the food you eat, the daily habits you observe, the physical activities you engage in. Managing your lifestyle entails making modifications in your routine like reducing the intake of fatty food and eating healthy foods.

Eating right can help you maintain a healthy weight and avoid certain health problems. Some of the healthy eating tips are planning a healthy diet, fill up on colorful fruits and vegetables, reduce sugar and salt, add calcium for bone health and enjoy healthy fats and avoid unhealthy fats.

Unhealthy eating habits seriously eat away at your health. They can make you fat, sluggish and generally unhealthy. Avoid eating junk foods, drinking alcohol and beverages.

Healthy eating is about feeling great, having more energy, improving your outlook, and stabilizing your mood. It’s not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the foods you love. These modifications should be done gradually especially in those aspects that elevate health risks. Food choices, physical activities and eating habits are some of the aspects of your lifestyle that can be modified to improve it. Eating is not a bad thing but when you over eat that’s the bad thing, just eat in moderation and you must know your limitations.

BE PREPARED, BE READY

National Risk Reduction Management (NDRRMC) leads the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill supported by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and Department of Education (DepEd), it aims to intensify local communities’ earthquake preparedness and increase the commitment of local government units in building safe communities. And the solid activity focuses on earthquake because earthquake preparedness means preparedness for all types of emergencies.

The earthquake drills are the most important of all earthquake preparedness measures. The primary objective of the drill is to facilitate timely and appropriate response when the actual quake does occur. It practices one's alertness and consciousness. Steps involves avoiding panicking and stay calm, duck, cover and hold - take shelter under a stable objects, and showing proper ways to the evacuation areas. Many establishments as well as school premises are the targets of the said program as it is where many people linger.

Being prepared can reduce the fear, anxiety and losses that accompany disasters. Communities, families, and individuals should know what to do in the event of an earthquake and where to seek shelter during a disaster. Participating in such activity is the best thing we could do. We never know when will it occur, now is the time to be prepared and ready.

To Our Beloved President

Dear President Rodrigo Duterte,

Good day! I would like to thank you, as there have been many changes and progress during your administration. In a world where our environment is no longer valued, thank you for taking steps to protect and preserve the beauty of the Philippines. I also admire that you have been a proactive president in achieving your vision of a new and improved Philippines.

Being President of our country must be really burdensome and stressful for you. Mr. President, let me be candid and honest in saying this: Rodrigo Roa Duterte is both good and a bad as a leader of the Filipino people you are definitely better than the previous Philippine president in the matter of decisive action and possessing political will.

However, it was disheartening to read an article in which you talked ill about the priests of the Catholic faith, which more than 80% of Filipinos belong to. As you are the leader of the country, you are also the representative of our nation – a bridge between the people and the government. How can you insult the faith that more than half the nation belongs to?

Every Filipino has the common goal of changing our country for the better, even us Catholics. With that said, we think that it would be best if we all respect one another and work together in achieving this dream, because we are more than willing to do so.

You have such great influence over the people of our country, and so we hope that you will be one to unite us and propel us forward as a nation.

                                                                                                          Proud Filipino,
                                                                                                            Mhandy Bosque

FREEDOM

June 12 observed as a legal holiday in the Philippines in commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence Day in 1898. The Independence day is very important to the Filipinos because it is the celebration of them being free from the slavery of the Spaniards one hundred years ago.

The Philippine flag was first raised on February 4,1899, and was first waved in Kawit, Cavite.

We were under the foreign rule for over 300 years until our nation gains its full liberty, when our forefathers fought their right for our freedom. Many lives were sacrificed and so much blood were shed in the name of independence.

History itself reminds of the hardship the Filipinos felt during the colonization. It was a day the heroes would long for but they never see what their effort to achieved the freedom we have now. They shed their own life and risk everything they have just to ignite nationalism in the heart of our fore father. Their effort never goes in vain because their children, we their children has long been savoring the price of their blood.

Today commemorates the Philippines Independence from the Spaniards. It is a day of memorial of the revolution that paved the way to the birth of our nation. The bravery of our fellow men and determination to fight a force much greater than them is a deed we can forever be proud of. The strength of our fellow men to not only fight colonizers but also their own fears is a move we will forever be grateful for.
